Café Europe – motivated business circle
aims at Cape Town based business people with a European link. The intention of this business and social network circle is to look for practical but perhaps also slightly unexpected issues and
speakers.

The Idea

Café Europe is a platform for Cape Town business people with a European link. Cafe Europe meets once a month to engage in networking on a business and a social level. The intention of this business and social network circle is to look for practical but perhaps also slightly unexpected issues and speakers. We bring together a diverse crowd, representing European countries and South Africans. Most meetings will kick-off with high level speaker on an interesting business topic or an introduction of one of the members about his/her company of about 20 minutes including questions and answers. The set up is to encourage interaction with the public by directly asking people to react, added by the presence of a journalist that acts as a mediator and discussion leader.

There is no initial membership fee, guests pay per attendance. Invitations will be emailed to a selected list of business people. These names will partially be provided by participating embassies and consulates and business chambers. South Africans are welcome to attend and will typically be introduced by Europeans.

Initiative

Cafe Europe was initiated by Niseth van der Meulen (policy advisor Dutch Consulate), Jordi de Looff (owner Real Life Concepts) and Katja Kammer (property investor). The idea was to create a new format for a unique business circle with challenging subjects and
A-list speakers for Cape Town/South Africa based business people, who have a link with Europe. This circle is more than a mere excuse than having drinks and meeting people. The format was set up together with Wibo van den Ende (commercial director, S.A.F.E) and Dirk Elzinga (managing director, Cape Town International Convention Centre), after organising a couple of extensive brainstorm sessions with role players, entrepreneurs and managers with an economic link in SA.

We also owe many thanks to:
Marjolijn Dijksterhuis (owner of MEA Global, leadership development), Tanja Roug (general manager, EuroCentre Insurances), Thessa Bos (policy advisor cultural and commercial affairs, Consulate General of the Netherlands).
